Creative LIBS Solutions
Bernalillo and Albuquerque, NM
Remote work available: only for business position
Located in Bernalillo, NM, Creative LIBS Solutions (CLS) is a small, woman-owned company focused on the development of laser-based medical diagnostics for the rapid detection of bacteria and viruses in liquid media. The technology under development will be game changing and will enable on-site, real-time, rapid screening for infections and contaminations.
CLS is able to host two science interns and one business intern.
Bioscience Interns (Two)
The scientific intern will have the opportunity to participate in basic research and development critical to the development a new game-changing technology. This internship will provide hands-on experience in biological sample preparation and prototype instrument operation.
Duties:
Preparation of both spiked and residual de-identified human samples. These prepared and residual samples will be pipetted onto filter paper and heat dried to inactive the target organism in preparation of the sample for instrument interrogation.
The spiked samples will be prepared by spiking negative sample matrix, i.e. negative human plasma, with known quantities of the target organism, i.e. the bacteria E. coli. The residual samples will be applied directly to the filter paper.
The intern will also prepare dilutions of dead bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella in water and apply them to filter paper the manner described above. Once the blood and/or water samples are prepared, the intern will proceed with the sample analysis using the prototype instrument developed by Creative LIBS Solutions.
The goal of these activities is the collection of data needed for development of stable detection algorithms for infections in human blood and biological contaminations in water.
Business Intern
The business intern will have the opportunity to participate in the development of a viable strategy for commercial market entry for a novel, game changing technology for the detection of bacteria and viruses in liquid samples.
Duties:
The intern will research and identify potential commercial markets for the detection of bacteria and viruses in human blood, water, or other fluids.
This research will be focused on identifying detection needs that are not being met by existing detection technologies to make recommendations on the best markets to enter, and will be followed by detailed market analysis for a selected few.
Using this research, the intern will lastly be tasked with developing a business plan for entering selected markets with an innovative detection solution.
