Life Science Testing & Analysis
Location: Albuquerque
Remote work available: unknown
LifeScience Testing and Analysis (LTA of NM) envisions a world made healthier through microbes. Our mission is to fight the spread of microbes that cause human disease and to find microbes that can break down toxic chemicals.
We have developed two methods to facilitate the use of bioinformatics to improve health. The first is the Advanced Small Drop Assay (ASDA), a method that increases the throughput of testing antimicrobial materials and can determine the speed of microbial killing. This information will lead to the next generation of antimicrobial surfaces.
The second is the On-Site Sampling and Biomass Estimated (OSSaBE), a method to collect microbes from any water source, no matter how remote, that can be analyzed using high-throughput DNA sequencing methods. This will facilitate the identification of microbes that can used for bioleaching, including those that can breakdown fluorine-based toxic chemicals.
About Internship Opportunity:
Biosciences student with experience in microbiology will learn the Advanced Small Drop Assay, which utilizes a 6-channel, adjustable spacing micropipette. Students interested in business will help with basic issues associated with start-ups.
